SPD TECH II / SPD CERTIFIED SURGICAL TECH, Full-time
Job Type Full-timeDescriptionSterile Processing DepartmentFull-time72 hours bi-weeklyShift Varies - 1st & 2ndIncludes every 4th weekend & holiday rotationThe SPD Technician performs repeated tasks in preventing the spread of infection by supervising and providing properly cleaned, inspected and processed equipment for facility use.
They disassemble, clean, assemble and prepare surgical instrumentation and equipment for sterilization.
They work in collaboration with the LPN Shift Supervisor, SPD Technicians and all departments to provide efficient and timely service to our clients.
They assist in tracking inventory, reviewing, recording and recovering charges through the facility's computer system.
Is involved in recording information for infection control and participates in the performance improvement activities within the departments.
They may handle the SPD responsibilities of the morgue.
They may be asked to supervise the department on a shift-to-shift basis, consulting the LPN Shift Supervisor or SPD Department Manager as needed.
RequirementsFor SPD Tech II:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); One year related experience and/or training in an acute care hospital, surgery center, Sterile Processing, Central Service, Surgery or Materials Management Department; or is currently enrolled in a central service technician program pursuing certification; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
For SPD Certified Surgical Technician:
Graduate from accredited school for Certified Surgical Technologist with current certifcation from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
Will continue to maintain competency and credential by completing a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education credits within each two year period, corresponding to the certification renewal.
Maintains a current certification Position requires standing 90% of the shift.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs and push or pull 150 lbs.
Specific vision abilities required for this job include intricate instrument inspection and requires exceptional close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
